QueryPlus External Communications

Several inquiries have been received about exactly how, when and why QueryPlus communicates with the outside world. Here is the text of Technical Bulletin #14, which explains all:

The QueryPlus client application communicates via internet with the QualCorp QueryPlus server in several events:

1.      Login               The client application sends a message containing the company name, machine name, QueryPlus version and the number of records in several tables in the QueryPlus database which contain database connectivity data.
The QualCorp QueryPlus server responds with updated information on license quantity and expiration date, and any new or revised database connectivity records.

2.      Error                In some cases when an error occurs, the client application sends a message to the QualCorp QueryPlus server containing the company name, QueryPlus version, machine name and detailed data about the error.
There is no response from the QualCorp QueryPlus server.

3.      Logout            The client application sends a message to the QualCorp QueryPlus server containing the company name, machine name and QueryPlus version.
There is no response from the QualCorp QueryPlus server.

All communications are encrypted using the Windows Triple-DES 168 algorithm.

No AMS360/AfW data is transmitted in any of these messages.

If the client application is installed on a computer that does not have internet access at the time of the login, QueryPlus will display a message stating that QueryPlus will continue to operate for a limited time and directing the user to contact QueryPlus technical support.
